Motherhood.

It's been 11 days since Sadie was born and Dave and I appear to be settling into a routine with her. She wakes, has her diaper changed, I feed her, she passes out. In the past few days there's been less of the passing out part and more of the very alert awareness. I, personally, feel she is the perfect baby. But then again, I am her mother.

Miss Sadie has been the first newborn I've ever held. She's also been the first diaper I've ever changed. We went into parenthood with my knowing very little about how to care of a baby, and Dave having far more knowledge than me. It's amazing how quickly you learn everything when you take a little peanut home.

In short, I'm exhausted, but elated. Sadie is by far the best thing that's ever happened in our life and I'm so grateful we have her. Sure I have no time to do my hair or apply make up. And yes, it takes us a lot longer to get ready in the morning and our home is in a constant state of disarray that's a bit challenging to keep up with. But it's all worth it.

Note: The hospital permits a photography service to visit all newborns and take photos. Ashley Burgess of Bella Baby Photography took several photos of Sadie that turned out so wonderful we ended up spending a bit of money on the CD with rights to all photos.
